An Early Morning

Last night was my first time trying a local Mexican taco truck known as El Chato. There are plenty of trucks filled with Mexican fooderys, but this was probably one of the most delicious and dirty eats of my life in Los Angeles. While devouring my al pastor burrito I thought to myself, “Are there other cities out there in the world who has delicious late night taco trucks like this?!” Los Angeles is definitely full of many random eats. It was approximately 1:30 AM while I was munching away. Then I thought to myself, “Oh my I have to be up in 6 hours for work (at an adorable little PR agency in downtown LA :) ).” Still I thought oh gosh this is the life though. Coming to LA to eat late at night with friends in the bitter cold, getting no sleep, and waking up early for work. LA life is one of a kind.
After a late night fun I still was looking forward to coming to Konnect PR. Even though I had no sleep the previous night, I still like being on time and doing my tasks promptly. One thing I learned while interning here at a public relations agency and just working in general (although it has been only my third time coming in so far) was that even with a night full of fun there still is responsibilities to keep, that includes waking up for work. I enjoy being productive and prompt, even if it means having no sleep. Again, that’s the LA life and I love every aspect of it. Cannot wait for what else is there to come while interning here. I think I’ll stop here for today after finishing up my cup of green tea. Chao!

Le Posh Salon Spa Lounge

I have the wonderful task of being the publicist for the beautiful, soon-to-open Le Posh Salon | Spa | Lounge you can see in the picture to the left. I had the opportunity and honor to be the very first guinea pig. I was treated to one of Le Posh’s signature treatments, the Le Posh Signature Seaweed Birch Wrap. The wonderful head masseuse, Ticia, explained the treatment in detail and then exited the room and I climbed onto the bed. Now, this being my first wrap EVER, I was a little surprised when she started brushing my skin with a dry brush. She assured me, as strange as it seemed, this helped exfoliate the skin and increased circulation and once I got over how much it tickled, it felt very good. Then she began painting every exposed part of my body with a greenish substance. After I was turned into the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Ticia wrapped me up. While in my toasty cocoon, I received the most incredible foot massage in my life! Wearing high heels every day does a number on my feet and this massage seemed to reverse years of barking dogs!

After she determined I was sufficiently dry, I hopped into the in-room shower with rainfall showerhead and rinsed off. Once I was back to my normal, pale skin tone, I wrapped myself in an indulgently soft robe while Ticia cleared and prepared the table. I then laid down on the softest sheets my skin has ever touched. Ticia asked which fragrance I would like used during my massage: Black Currant, Sandelwood or White Tea-Grapefruit. After a quick mental debate, I settled on the later and my 30 minutes of bliss began!

As many of us who lean over computers at PR agencies do, I tend to hold stress and tension in my shoulders and neck. (Word of advice: try and sit up straight when you’re at your desk!) Ticia worked and worked and as cliché as it sounds, after 30 minutes I not only felt like a new person!

I honestly cannot wait for Le Posh to open to the public so everyone can experience the heaven that is a treatment at Le Posh Salon | Spa | Lounge!

Los Angeles- Never a Dull Moment

My alarm went off at 6:20 this morning, screaming it’s all too familiar, un-lovable tune. In my morning haze I went through the typical motions of getting ready and out the door to head to work at Konnect PR, a PR agency in downtown LA. An hour later, I was finally awake enough to take in my surroundings. I looked up on the subway to see an older woman, clad in jeans (with a plush monkey dangling off a belt loop) and an over-sized sweatshirt sitting on her own portable stool that she had brought for her own personal sitting-ease. She then proceeded to sing. I couldn’t help but smile and think, “I love people”.
I stepped off the train among hundreds of other bodies and made my way up the stairs to the broad daylight and warm air (Thank God!). With time to kill I snuggled into a massive arm chair in the Starbucks down the street with my grande soy latte. I pulled out “The Channels of Power- The Impact of Television on American Politics,” some light reading I needed to catch up on for class. Although published in the early 1980′s Austin Ranney made some good points. Bringing up social theories and examples, he explained that most of what we learn is from each other. Although the news’ impact is exponentially growing, we, as humans, only listen to viewpoints that coincide with the views that we already hold, and we get most of our information from friends, family, and co-workers who we trust the most.
Sipping on my caffine, reflecting on my “subway friend” and reading Ranney, got me thinking that this is what public relations is all about — learning things from people just like us, instead of being told things by the ever-growing conglomerate media (even if we are just learning to smile on the subway on a slow Thursday morning).
I’ve only just begun my internship here at Konnect, but I’m already loving the company, the people and the field!

Well, I’m almost done with my coffee so I think that’s it for now. :)

Old Spice Guy is BACK!…Well, almost back.

A fan of the hilarious Old Spice Guy and his giant stallion? Well, these clever commercials are back–sort of–with the launch of a teaser video on Youtube, uploaded about six days ago. What I love about the release of the teaser is that it explicitly tells you that Old Spice will be launching brand new products in the weeks to come. Instead of releasing a traditional release or ad campaign, the geniuses behind Wieden + Kennedy decided to go grassroots, creating an online video that would undoubtedly go viral and create a buzz less about the actual Old Spice product and more about the Old Spice Guy, which in a circular way creates the buzz about the new products and in turn, boosts sales. You feel like you know something yet you know absolutely nothing at all.

Loves it. Enjoy a good laugh.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

At Konnect PR our method of travel is to maximize our time in one place by accomplishing as much as possible. For example, in the last 5 days Sabina and I have traveled with samples, press kits, luggage, and more by plane, train and automobile through the east coast to New York, Philadelphia and everywhere in between. While the thought of shlepping around in 10 lbs of clothing with an additional 15 lbs of various samples and press materials sounds unappealing (and believe me it is) the end result is well worth it. At our public relations agency we believe that we must constantly be where the press is, and the fact is that a lot of the national press is in New York. We pride ourselves on getting in front of those media contacts which we treasure and work with every day and creating a relationship that becomes much more valuable than a chain of e-mails and a couple of phone calls. In addition, we also pride ourselves on being in touch with our clients. Our client Olive Juice is based in a small suburb outside of Philadelphia. With a heavy onslaught of orders coming in, they found it difficult to get away for a moment to come and meet with us to plan 2011. So what did we do… hop a train to Philly, samples, luggage and all. While it may seem ilogical to leave the Los Angeles 75 degree weather to go a place where the high is about 15 or lower a day, this is what sets us apart from other PR agencies and this is why we do the amazing job we do. Below you can get an idea of what we have been dealing with on a daily basis. If this doesn’t show you that we are serious about our work/ clients than I don’t know what will!

New Family Next Door?

Working at a PR agency it’s a must to be up on celebrity news. With a popular clothing brand, a slew of magazine covers and of course their addictive reality series (including the new spinoff Kourtney and Kim Take New York that debuted just this week) dare I say it, the Kardashians have somehow transcended all odds to become America’s favorite family. This week’s episode has us at Konnect buzzing around the office.

So how did they get here? The Kardashians should probably thank Ryan Seacrest, the executive producer behind the popular show on E! But even without Seacest, what’s interesting to me is how well these girls know how to work the media. Sprawled across the Konnect offices are magazines plastered with the girls’ gorgeous faces. From this month’s Glamour feauturing Kim to an issue of Parenting magazine with Kourtney and baby Mason, this family has got all their publicity bases covered, which is probably why America can’t seem to get enough. Their realness and accessibility becomes something we see almost everywhere these days.

Somehow through all the smoke and mirrors, we can still relate to this family as we willingly open up our living rooms to them each week….

Either that, or maybe it’s the fact that they’re just so darn entertaining.
