LA publicist on Nautica Malibu Triathlon
August 9, 2011 5:57pmOne of the best things about being a LA publicist is being able to work with various types of clients, which is why I am so excited that our firm is working with the 25th annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon. The triathlon supports Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ pediatric cancer research program and last year, raised over $1 million!
Being able to hear about all of the participants’ inspiring stories of triumph is truly motivating. Not only that, but seeing the corporate teams come together for a great cause is absolutely amazing. We all headed to Zuma Beach one Saturday morning to watch the teams train for swimming, biking and running. Everyone was so energetic and ready to train!
I’m looking forward to actually seeing the race take place and maybe even considering participating in something like this. So fun!

K Hotels’ Hotel Diva is the perfect San Francisco Treat
July 12, 2011 10:48amHeading to San Francisco this summer? One of the main areas visitors stay is Union Square, as it is centrally located and is walking distance to tons of shopping, restaurants and nightlife. One of the great things about working for a pr agency, you can find out about tons of great places to stay even outside of LA.
Such is the case of one mom who was visiting the San Francisco area covered on Hollywood Hot Moms. She stayed at K Hotels’ Hotel Diva and she loved it!

This LA publicist’s verdict is still out: JT to revamp MySpace??
July 5, 2011 6:40pmLast week, the news broke that MySpace was sold for a conservative $35 million, with Justin Timberlake having an ownership stake in the company. They want to shape MySpace as a place for music lovers to share their favorite artists and listen to new music.
Working for a LA pr agency, I do have a few reservations about attempting to save MySpace. As a LA publicist, it is my job to help shape the perception of a company/brand and ultimately, get the media talking about it. But even me, who can always find a way to make the glass half full of SOMETHING, is raising my eyebrows at the possibility of revitalizing the site.
Besides the fact that MySpace is SO 1999, I’m not quite sure how the community will fit into the scope of social media in today’s times. YouTube is the king of video, LinkedIn has created a new environment for head-hunters to prey on fresh employment meat, and Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook are just…well, FACEBOOK, nuff said. Itunes and music are practically synonymous. So where does MySpace fit in?
And let’s be real: the mere name MySpace brings an immediate, gag reflex. Who even checks their MySpace??
I also understand that Justin Timberlake is a singer. Easy. However, I’m not quite sure what qualifies him as an expert at revamping a washed up social network, outside of the fact that he sings and that he’s loaded. What was on his resume that said “Yes, I am the perfect candidate for the job.” If they’re banking on him being the poster child alone, I really don’t think that’s strong enough to save the site.
It’s a job that will be a challenge, to say the least. Looking forward to how this all unfolds.

LA publicist on innovative social media campaigns
June 22, 2011 5:59pmMashable recently wrote an article entitled Behind the Scenes on 8 Innovative Social Media Campaigns and it really piqued my interest. Working for a pr agency in Los Angeles, a number of our clients ask us to monitor and update their social media pages. But running a social media campaign isn’t just about sending tweets and waiting to see what happens. It’s about targeting a specific audience and creating material that caters to your audience’s interests and engaging them. So when I came across this article, it served as inspiration for me as a LA publicist to come up with more creative ideas and tactics.
The one campaign that was most intriguing to me was the write up on The Voice. As the article states, the show was created from a Dutch show that integrated social media. Producers took it a step further by not only integrating aspects of social media, but having an online presence as the main focus, making this one of the most interactive co-viewing experiences.
I think The Voice is the beginning of an entirely new type of viewing experience. Viewers want to fully participate in their favorite shows, which is exemplified by successes like American Idol, and The Voice is an exciting platform that allows viewers to interact with the contestants and hosts. In the future, in order for TV to survive in a realm where online streaming, micro-blogging and the world of Netflix continues to grow, primetime and cable TV shows will have to navigate towards a more up-to-date format. Maybe a show that integrates QR codes in the actual episode that take you to extra scenes or commentary from the actors. Or how about a microblog scrolling below the screen, with real-time viewers commenting as the plot is unfolding. The possibilities are endless.

LA publicist incorporates stress-relieving practices
June 9, 2011 5:22pmWorking at a LA public relations agency means interacting with the press on the a daily basis and juggling multiple tasks at once. This also means LOTS of stress. As much as I love being a LA publicist, the stress can get to high levels which is why it’s so important to utilize convenient and easy stress relieving techniques, and in my case, products.
One product that helps reduce anxiety is Be Happy, a 2 oz drink that has natural ingredients to help the feelings of stress. Be Happy also appears in this month’s Vitamin Retailer Magazine in the New Products Round Up.
