USA Today…. Today

There are some days when I wake up, sleepily open my eyes, look at my inbox via my BlackBerry (which is never more than 1 ft away from me) and the following occurs – my heart skips a beat, my eyes slightly gorge out of my head, and I just know it is going to be an amazing day. Today was one of those days. This morning when I woke up I had a treasure in my inbox. Aside from the many Google Alerts, follow up e-mail replies and spam about winning the lottery (which all come with being a publicist), today I had the pleasure of receiving one of those e-mails that all publicists dream to wake up to. Today, a piece that I had been pitching for a while now for my client Olive Juice, finally showed up as part of the “Fashion Forward” column on USA Today online. While this may not be a big deal to some, for me, this is what keeps me in love with public relations and working hard everyday. The pleasure and satisfaction of seeing your hard work in researching the best people and places to pitch, and seeing that they agree that what you are pitching them is perfect for the same thing, is beyond gratifying. To me, this is the ultimate proof that hard work, and more than that, efficient work, truly does pay off. With that said, you can view this USA Today article online, and can also check it out in the below clip. Happy Wednesday!

Olive Juice on Martha Stewart

Today Olive Juice was featured on the Martha Stewart blog Living In The Family Room in a feature about cold weather wear. They featured the Olive Juice Sledding Scarf which retails for $34.50, comes in several colors and is perfect for the upcoming season. Even though it is currently a scorching 90+ degrees in Los Angeles this will most definitely come in handy this winter season :)

Its not official until you see it in print

Today was a great day in the Konnect PR offices as our client Maryellen Kane, owner of Olive Juice children’s clothing company, was prominently featured in a story in the November 2010 issue of Inc. Magazine. In a two page article her name was the opening line and she was quoted heavily throughout with a couple paragraphs talking specifically about her business. For a publicist this kind of coverage in a larger business piece is a dream come true!

While celebrating our victory with screams and plenty of high-fives all around, I realized that the reason that something like this coming to fruition is so amazing and exciting for us, is because as a publicist you really never know what your coverage is going to look like until it is out in print. There can be interviews, and fact check upon fact check but even then, you never have a guarantee that all your hard work is going to pay off until you are holding that magazine in your hands and see the piece for yourself.

You see, when dealing with editorial, there are so many things that can go wrong or change during the process of getting coverage. Editors can change the direction of a piece completely and what was once relevant (your client) can now be an afterthought that does not work or will just be briefly mentioned.  There can be space issues when putting together the final copy of the issue and a story/ portions of a story can be cut. And lastly, one of the top editors can decide that despite having their writers faith, they just don’t think you are a good fit.

In our experience, as with many publicists I’m sure, the entire process of securing press and then it actually happening does not always go through as planned. Our job is one of very hard work, and while the key to being a good publicist is success rate with the follow through, things do not always go as planned.

In this case, we could not be happier with the outcome :) While we had sent information, conducted interviews and fact checked for the feature, we could not be sure whether the piece would include one page or one sentence from our client. To say we were pleasantly surprised to see the outcome would be an understatement. What a great day to end the day!!

Trade Show Magic

Aside from booking press (which you can see we clearly do from the posts on the blog) one of the things that we pride ourselves on is helping to organize and execute trade shows for our clients in their various industries. Earlier this month we did just that with our client Olive Juice as they attended the ENK Children’s Club show in New York. Catering to children’s fashion, this was Olive Juice’s first time attending the show and we were there to help with everything from the booth set up to press appointments, sales, and of course, booth tear down. Overall they had an AMAZING show!! We were so happy for them for all of their success and thought we would share some photos of the process of creating a cool and attractive booth.

Here we are at the very beginning with a bare booth space setting up the most basic of necessities at a trade show, a table!

We added a stencil with the Olive Juice definition to one side of our booth. It was done entirely in chalk and we kept getting compliments throughout the entire show about how cool the idea was.

The most important booth asset of all… THE CLOTHES!

And last but not least, two adorable little models showing off some of the Olive Juice pieces in live motion :)
