At Konnect PR, we find ways to interject a little bit of fun into the office, and one of the best ways we liven up our workday is through music. Many styles of music float through the office, but one thing we can agree on is our love for all things Glee. As one of the most popular shows on television right now, we aren’t alone in our obsession. I am a self proclaimed Gleek. I have every song, every mash-up, every episode, and every Sue Sylvester insult memorized. Needless to say, when I heard about the big Super Bowl episode, I could hardly contain myself. I mean, a mash-up of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Heads Will Roll” on top of The Warblers, McKinley High Glee Club’s biggest (and most talented) competition, singing an epic acapella rendition of “Bills, Bills, Bills” is making me keel over in excitement just thinking about it.
Then today the clouds parted and it was announced that Lea Michele, Ms. Rachel Berry, will be singing “America the Beautiful” alongside stellar songstress Christina Aguilera’s rendition of The National Anthem. The Black Eyed Peas will be taking over the half-time show this year.
I’m not worried about Lea Michele performing on a national stage. She could sing “America the Beautiful” pitch perfect with bronchitis and her hands tied behind her back. Here is one of my favorite Rachel Berry performances from the series. She belted “Don’t Rain on My Parade” in the first season of the show. Her version rivals the legendary Barbara Streisand’s show stopping rendition from the musical turned film Funny Girl. It’s our favorite tune to jam to at work at our little gleeky LA PR agency.
You be the judge. Does she have “it” or what??
